Outcry as tattoo shop inks girl, 9, who wanted Trump on her neck.
Controversy has erupted over a tattoo shop in Yuma, Arizona, recently, for an incident involving a 9-year-old girl, who asked for the ink on the neck showing that of US Republican politician Donald Trump. The artist, Sosa, instead gave her an American flag tattooed on her arm, claiming he wished to avoid her regretting the decision. Still, this has greatly sparked criticism on all social media, with many arguing that no minor should ever have a tattoo.
Sosa defended his actions by stating that irrespective of what he said, the girl and her family were going to get the tattoo anyway. He said he would instead offer them a place to do the procedure rather than an unregulated setting. However, critics have slammed him for not just saying no but rather said it is so bad for the image of professional tattoo artists.
The incident has raised questions relating to the legality and ethics of tattooing minors. In Arizona, minors can be ratified for such tattoos if their parents give their consent, but many people feel that tighter measures should be imposed. Sosa himself expressed regret about it, recognizing he does not advocate the practice of tattooing children. The debate will continue with more voices joining it even today.
